The field Howitzer that stands outside Victoria Park RSL was moved last week to make more space for ceremonies around the War Memorial.
Although originally for mobile use in Korea, this decommissioned piece required expert help and hydraulic power to shift it the short distance between its former and new locations. The gun, weighing 1800 kg, was stubborn initially. but eventually accepted its move with grace. You’ve got to admit, it looks good in its new position. Even Ben Wyatt MLA came along to see the action.
We are indebted to these businesses and people for making the move possible:
- Building Belonging – Brad Evans, Alvin Bracken and Matthew Elzard – who donated their time to the job.
- Trifab Metal Products for donating the steel plates necessary for mounting the gun.
- Green and Gold Hiab Services – Dean French took care of things on the day.
